February '10 - New Featured Acts coming to The Red Lion Inn
Turtle Soup - (02/19/10) Originally from the Jersey Shore, Turtle Soup is an original, high-energy mix of rock, funk, trance and latin flavored sounds. Their good-humored nature perfectly vibes with the jam/festival scene, and their face-melting improvisational skills keep fans guessing what they'll be hearing next.
Turtle Soup has consistently been winning over crowds and critics alike with their passionate live performances. Dedicated to laying down tight, rocking dance grooves, the Soup is now growing quickly with a good buzz and regional following in the Northeast US. They have also won numerous accolades such as jambands.com New Groove of the Month, Asbury Music Awards Top Jam Band, and Top Groove Band multiple times.
So far, they've played with moe., Blues Traveler, Steve Kimock's Crazy Engine, Jim Weider's Project Percolator, Gongzilla, Dark Star Orchestra, Marshall Tucker Band, Max Creek and many others, being endorsed by several of them along the way.
Greg Merritt's Heavy Road - (02/27/10) Greg Merritt along with Alex Garay, Dave Migliore and Keith Giordano founded the 90s psychedelic band Amorphous. Dave and Alex went on to form Catbootz, and later the jam scene phenomenon Buzzuniverse. Greg Merritt went on to form the band Good Friend with drummer Dan DeRienzo and bassist Rob Smith. The first release was the 7" vinyl record Out There/River, which received airplay at over 70 college radio stations around the country in 1995. Building on this success, Good Friend's debut CD Best Friend released in 1999 received airplay on over 250 college stations reaching number one on over a dozen stations. Greg Merritt is currently forming a new jam band to follow up on the release of his CD Dream Through A Leaf last spring which debuted at 21 on the jambands.com radio chart. The new band is officially called "Greg Merritt's Heavy Road. I'm thinking we'll eventually just call it Heavy Road. The players are Greg Merritt on guitar/vocals, Ron Thaler on drums, Art Sadowsyi on bass, and Pete Remm on the keyboard.
